McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week: Lauren Pockl

Student-Athlete of the Week

Lauren PocklEach week, the McNamara Academic Center for Student-Athletes (MAC) will recognize one University of Minnesota student-athlete for his or her academic achievements. The winner of the McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 2nd is Lauren Pockl from the softball team.

Coach Lisa Bernstein believes that Pockl is a great role model for all student-athletes.

“Lauren is a true team player. She also works hard in the classroom and on the softball field,” Bernstein said. “She takes a lot of pride in representing the University of Minnesota and we are proud to have her represent our team.”

Pockl is a senior who is pursuing a double major in Political Science and Global Studies. She is from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Academic Counselor Jenn Townsend is very proud of Lauren for pushing herself academically and getting experience above and beyond a typical college education.

“Not only has Lauren chosen to pursue a double major; she is also taking advantage of programs in both majors that will give her additional knowledge and experience beyond what she could learn in a classroom,” Townsend said. “Lauren will spend the summer in Montpellier, France for two months learning about the French language and culture. Additionally, she is going to spend the fall semester in Washington, D.C., doing a congressional internship. Each of these experiences is an extraordinary chance for Lauren to apply what she has learned in her majors to real life situations.”
