McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week: Logan U’u

Logan U'uEach week, the McNamara Academic Center for Student-Athletes (MAC) will recognize one University of Minnesota student-athlete for his or her academic achievements. The winner of the McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 28th is Logan U’u from the football team.

Coach John Butler has been impressed with the tremendous improvement that Logan has shown from his initial enrollment at Minnesota last year until now.

“Logan has drastically changed his approach to his academic workload in terms of his preparation, his discipline and his approach to his studies. This has had a considerable positive effect on his academic success,” Butler said. “He has also taken advantage of all of the resources available to him and used them to his benefit.”

U’u is a junior majoring in communication studies.

MAC Director Mark Nelson and Learning Specialist Todd Helmer have also witnessed the hard work that Logan has put into his academic work.

“Logan has worked very hard this year after transferring to the U and has done virtually everything that he has been asked to surrounding his academics, such as study hall and meeting with tutors,” Nelson said. “His commitment to academics has been noticed by all those around him from his coaches to his professors.”

Helmer also noted how U’u’s dedication to his studies has paid off. He said, “Logan is a student who will study until he masters the material and I have never heard the words ‘good enough’ pass through his lips. In the end, Logan is a person whose integrity and self-motivation will see him through many milestones of success.”
