McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week: Sara Johnson
Each week the McNamara Academic Center for Student-Athletes (MAC) will recognize one University of Minnesota student-athlete for his or her academic achievements. The winner of the McNamara Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 30th is Sara Johnson from the soccer team.
Coach Mikki Denney Wright is proud of the Johnson’s work ethic.
“Sara is a great example of what you can accomplish through hard work and perseverance,“ Denney Wright said. “She has been a tremendous teammate and a valuable member of our program. We are so proud of her academic achievements.”
Johnson is a senior who is majoring in Business and Marketing Education. She has completed her soccer eligibility and will compete with the Gopher’s softball team. She will graduate in May 2009.
Academic Counselor Erin Meier is proud of Sara and how she has developed as a student and a role model during her tenure as a Gopher.
“Sara has overcome some academic difficulties early in her career. However, through hard work and discipline, she earned a 4.0 GPA this past spring,” Meier said. “She has been a source of stability for the whole soccer team and has the biggest heart of anyone with whom I have worked."
